È l'antica città mwgqfenicia di mwggBotri: del suo glorioso passato conserva i resti di un mwgwanfiteatro di mwhaepoca romana, le cui gradinate sono intagliate nella roccia e una fortezza costruita dagli mwhqArabi, che domina l'antica strada che da mwhgBeirut porta a mwhwTripoli.
